Abu Dhabi’s taxi fleet just got an eco-friendly upgrade — and Tesla’s electric cars are now part of it.
The emirate’s Integrated Transport Center (ITC) announced on Thursday that some Tesla vehicles will join the fleet as part of an initiative to support the country’s efforts to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development goals.
However, authorities did not mention how many Tesla taxis will be on the road.
Abdullah Al Marzouqi, director general of ITC, which is part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport, said that equipping the fleet with Teslas will support the emirate’s “Green Economy for Sustainable Development” initiative, further contributing to energy efficiency and carbon reduction emissions and improve customer satisfaction.
Sheikh Sultan Majid Hamad Al Qasimi, Managing Director, Arabia Taxi Transportation, said: “There is no doubt that this initiative will appeal to the public of taxi users in Abu Dhabi as it helps to improve the quality of service provided to them, increasing their satisfaction and bring a high happiness index to the users of these vehicles.”
The launch of Tesla Motors was announced as ITC hosted workshops, events and interactive events at various locations in Abu Dhabi from 8-17 March. The stated aim is to strengthen the community of interaction between ITC and Abu Dhabi’s various sectors and to raise awareness of its services.
