As the cooler weather arrives, restaurant and cafe owners have begun setting up outdoor seating areas. However, it’s essential to be aware of the rules and guidelines in place, as violators could face fines of up to Dh5,000, as per the Abu Dhabi City Municipality.
Permits and Requirements for Outdoor Seating Areas
To establish temporary outdoor seating areas near commercial establishments, including shops, eateries, and cafes, permits are mandatory. These permits require the payment of fees and adherence to specific operational procedures, with a strong emphasis on maintaining cleanliness.
Penalties for Violation
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has outlined penalties for non-compliance. Unauthorized outdoor seating areas can incur a fine of Dh5,000, and violations of permit conditions may result in penalties of Dh3,000.
Public Awareness Campaign
To ensure greater understanding of these regulations, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in partnership with the City Municipality Centre, has launched a public awareness campaign, disseminating essential information to restaurant and cafe owners and the public alike.
