UAE Union Pledge Day Celebrated Across the Nation, Marking 55 Years of Unity

UAE Union Pledge Day Across the Nation

The UAE Union Pledge Day is being celebrated across the nation today, honouring one of the most meaningful moments in the country’s history.

Observed every year on July 18, the day commemorates the moment in 1971 when the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, along with the Rulers of the other emirates, signed the Declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution. That historic meeting laid the groundwork for the official formation of the UAE on December 2, 1971.

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared July 18 as Union Pledge Day in 2024, calling it a chance to reflect on the nation’s journey and draw lessons for the future. It now stands alongside Union Day, Flag Day and Commemoration Day as one of the UAE’s key national occasions.

This year marks 55 years since that founding vision, and the UAE continues building on it, ranking fifth globally in the 2026 World Competitiveness Report and recording a non-oil foreign trade of over Dh3.8 trillion in 2025.

Across the country, government departments, schools, businesses and residents observed the occasion by reflecting on the values of unity, cooperation and shared ambition that helped build the nation.

The annual event has become a symbol of national pride and a reminder of the vision that transformed the UAE into one of the region’s leading countries.
