Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have issued new warnings against running a red light, one of the emirate’s worst traffic offenses and punishable by a fine of up to AED51,000.
Running a red light is when a motorist crosses a traffic light when the light is red.
Under Law No. 5 of 2020 on vehicle impoundment, violators will be fined Dh1,000 and 12 traffic black points for running a red light. Motorists will also have their driving licenses suspended for six months.

Additionally, the vehicle will be impounded for 30 days and Dh50,000 must be paid to release the impounded vehicle. If the impounded vehicle is not released within three months, it will be auctioned off.

A total of 2,850 motorists in Abu Dhabi have been fined for running red lights in 2021, police said earlier.
Police recently shared videos on their social media platforms showing the serious accident when a motorist ran a light. In one serious incident, a four-wheeler was seen running through traffic lights in Abu Dhabi before crashing into a white car driving through an intersection. The collision severely damaged the sedan.
In another incident, a white sedan sped through an intersection just as the light was about to turn red, hit nearby vehicles, was veered off course, and slammed into a car parked on the opposite side at the traffic light.
