UAE@51: Abu Dhabi to host events, fireworks displays to mark UAE National Day

Abu Dhabi: UAE National Day is celebrated this weekend in Abu Dhabi in style with fireworks, shows and concerts paying tribute to the UAE’s 51 years of history.

2022 marks the first year since the country celebrates its Golden Jubilee, and a key part of the celebration is looking to the country’s future and aspirations.

Therefore, the Organizing Committee of the 51st UAE National Day Celebration invites all those who call the UAE home to celebrate the National Day on 2nd December.

Kicking off the festivities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the official UAE National Day ceremony will take visitors on a generational journey of the UAE’s inspiring pioneers as the country heads into its future in 2071. The exhibition will be held on December 3rd and December 11th at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The organizing committee also called on residents to record a minute-long video of children talking about their dreams for the future of the UAE and post it on Instagram for a chance to take part in the official National Day celebrations.

On 2 and 3 December, a range of locations will host fireworks displays, including Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Maryah Island and the capital’s Yas Bay waterfront, and Hazza bin in Al Ain Zayed Stadium and Al Dhafra area.

Many of these venues will also host additional events and performances for visitors.

The Sheikh Zayed Festival is scheduled for 2-3 December with a series of performances, including a spectacular fountain and laser light show at the Emirates Fountain. The Global Parade of Civilizations will feature roaming performers, while the Emirati Civilizations Parade will take visitors through time and space to learn about the most important Emirati artefacts.

The festival’s heritage village will also look back at the UAE’s past 51 years of history and the role played by the country’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in unifying and developing the country.

On Al Maryah Island, a charity effort by The Galleria in partnership with the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI) will introduce a range of rugs based on the work of renowned local artists. A Ripe Market will also be located alongside the venue, offering locally made products and items.

Meanwhile, Yas Island will organize traditional Emirati Ayala dance performances at various locations including Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World and Clem Park Abu Dhabi. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will also display a giant Emirati flag for visitors to use as a backdrop for photo ops, while Yas Waterworld invites guests to enjoy an interactive journey to learn more about Emirati culture through a range of activities and live entertainment, including Falcon handlers, agarwood players and laba performers, as well as henna and face painting.

The Emirates Heritage Club is once again organizing the National Day Traditional Regatta for 40-foot boats. The annual event attracts many young sailors to participate on a large scale every year.

The club will organize ceremonies and folklore performances at the Abu Dhabi Theatre, as well as a screening of a documentary on the formation of the union. There will also be a poetry matinee, an Ayala performance, a marching band, a National Day photography exhibition, crafts for children and various competitions.

Museums in the UAE will also take part in the massive National Day celebrations.

For example, Qasr Al Hosn will host a yolah weapon dance competition, an art installation at the Artisan House and other live performances highlighting Emirati handicrafts.

Qasr Al Muwaiji and Bait Mohammed Bin Khalifa of Al Ain will also watch performances and performances to entertain and educate visitors.

Ehtifal Al Emarat will also host a festival at the Abu Dhabi Theater to spread the message of solidarity and sustainable development. In addition, artists from 51 countries will celebrate the UAE’s 51st anniversary with concerts, panel discussions and a Guinness World Record-breaking event.

At Louvre Abu Dhabi, Emirati veterans who accompanied the founding father of the UAE during his life will share his love of poetry, connection to his people and his advocacy for women’s education.

A number of Emirati artists will also perform at Louvre Abu Dhabi during the National Day weekend, including pianist and composer Hamad Al Tayyi, soul singer Alqam Al Abri, singer Rashid Al Nue Meter.

In another concert at Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain, Emirati artist and singer Balqees and Yemeni singer Fouad Abdulwahed will perform. On the other hand, popular Emirati artists Hussain Al Jassmi and Hamad Al Ameri will entertain residents with a concert in Al Hosn.

Public spaces and shopping malls across the emirate will also join in the festivities with several events for families, while the capital will once again see its popular car parade along the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
