ILT20’s inaugural edition in the UAE kicks off on January 13 with Dubai Capitals taking on Abu Dhabi Knights, with the final scheduled for February 12.
There will be 34 games in total – 30 in the league stage followed by four playoffs – with the Dubai International Stadium hosting the tournament opener and final. A total of 16 matches will be played in Dubai, with Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium hosting 10 and Sharjah International Stadium hosting eight. The doubleheader has been scheduled for five days, all weekend.
The six-team game will feature all teams [Desert Vipers, Gulf Giants, MI Emirates and Sharjah Warriors are the other teams] Play twice against the others, and the top four make it to the playoffs. After that, there will be one knockout and two qualifiers – just like in the IPL – to determine the two finalists. On days with only one match, the match will kick off at 6pm local time (7.30pm IST), while on days with two matches, the first match will start at 2pm local time (7.30pm IST). 3:30 p.m.) to start.
Although all leagues are played simultaneously, ILT20 will feature some big names such as Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Trent Boult, Alex Hales, Moeen Ali, Wanindu Hasaranga, Sikandar Raza and Dasun Shanaka. Contracts for the league’s top players are expected to be around $450,000 per season, making it the second largest T20 league after the IPL.
