Online food delivery companies warned UAE residents to expect delays as rains swept across the country on Monday.

Several residents in the UAE reported delays in their food deliveries due to traffic jams caused by erratic weather conditions, which led to late orders.

The Khaleej Times spotted several delivery workers taking shelter under bridges and overpasses in the city due to heavy rain.

“Due to the current weather, your order may be delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience,” Talabat, an online food ordering company, said in a message to customers.

When contacted by The Khaleej Times, a Talabat spokesperson said in a statement: “The safety of our riders and the community remains of the utmost importance to us. As part of our standard safety protocols, due to the Due to the heavy rain, we suspended our operations in the affected areas of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain to ensure the safety of our riders.

We also message riders via the rider in-app chat feature to keep them updated and give them road safety tips.
