The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has partnered with global automotive supplier Valeo to advance the automotive industry and manufacture components for electric and autonomous vehicles in the emirate.

Valeo plans to combine its advanced technology with the sustainable development vision of green cities to explore new areas of development. The collaboration between ADDED and Valeo aims to strengthen the industrial solutions development community and collaborate with local start-up electric mobility companies.

The agreement to design and manufacture components for electric and autonomous vehicles is expected to enhance smart and sustainable mobility in Abu Dhabi and contribute to the development of the city’s transport sector.

“This collaboration to develop smart mobility and establish a technical center for electric and autonomous vehicle components in Abu Dhabi is in line with our initiatives to ensure growth, sustainability and advanced technology go hand in hand in all aspects of our socio-economic,” said ADDED Industrial Development Authority Executive Director Arafat Al Yafei said.

Transport is one of the targeted sub-sectors of Abu Dhabi’s Industrial Strategy, with initiatives including innovative technologies for Industry 4.0 to drive the emirate’s transition to a smart, circular and sustainable economy.

Abu Dhabi’s Smart Mobility Strategy

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi has built an electric vehicle assembly plant that will produce thousands of vehicles a year from its industrial zone, and has brought in smart electric company NWTN as it hopes to become an automotive hub.

In September 2022, Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Industrial Zone said it would build a 25,000-square-meter facility, to be operated by NWTN, for electric vehicle manufacturing, research and development, and vehicle testing

Under the agreement, NWTN will initially have an annual production capacity of 5,000 to 10,000 semi-dismantled electric vehicles, the process by which a manufacturer disassembles part of a vehicle at its point of origin and reassembles it in another country.

Abu Dhabi’s Smart Digital Strategy aims to develop an efficient and sustainable transport sector that utilizes modern technology to better serve the community by improving the efficiency of the transport system and supporting the transition to environmentally friendly and sustainable smart autonomous vehicles.
