Capital enters second phase of future smart mobility projects on Yas and Saadiyat Islands

From the UAE’s first driverless taxi to robot buses and trains, a fleet of 17 autonomous vehicles is on the roads of Abu Dhabi as the emirate’s future smart mobility project enters its second phase .

Eight Txai self-driving taxis, six mini robot buses and three Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles – an improved trackless rapid transit system – are currently operating on Yas and Saadiyat islands. These destinations also have around 20 charging stations.

In the first phase, the ART wheeled trolleybus will serve Yas Island’s main tourist attractions and commercial hubs. Here’s what it looks like:

The ART service covers theme parks such as Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld, and other popular attractions on Yas Island, such as Yas Mall, Yas Beach, Yas Plaza, etc.

Saadiyat Island self-driving taxi routes include Mamsha Al Saadiyat, Manarat Al Saadiyat, NYU Abu Dhabi, St Regis Hotel, Saadiyat Beach, Lycée Français International Théodore Monod school, Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resorts, Saadiyat and many other new stops Beach Residence and the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi. The total length of the route is 47.5 kilometers and the service hours are from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm every week.

Meanwhile, the robot bus shuttles through nine different streets, most connected by Jacques Chirac Street on Saadiyat Island. Customers can download and install the Txai app to book and track their rides.

The Integrated Transport Center (ITC) of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) noted that the initiative is in line with the leadership’s vision to make the emirate’s cities smarter and more sustainable.

The project is part of the establishment of an intelligent transport system that supports the development of various sectors and facilitates residents and tourists traveling to the emirate in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. It also reduces carbon emissions, thereby helping the country achieve its sustainable development goals.

Officially launched during the 2022 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Smart Mobility project is a partnership between DMT, ITC and Bayanat, a public company listed on the ADX and majority-owned by G42, specializing in Engaged in artificial intelligence geospatial intelligence..
