Video: Dominant UAE wins inaugural NAS International Padel Championship

The UAE national team won the inaugural Nad Al Sheba International Padel Championship thanks to a strong performance and cheering crowds who beat Qatar 2-0 in the final.

Themed ‘Unlimited Ability’, the NAS Sports Championship, organized by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), has the largest attendance and prize money of its kind and is held annually during Ramadan at the iconic Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex since 2013 .

The total prize pool for the 10th NAS Sports Championship is AED 4 million. The winners of the eight sporting events will receive AED 3 million in prize money, while spectators will receive prize money worth a total of AED 1 million.

Sheikh Saeed awarded the Nad Al Sheba International Padel Championship to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, in recognition of his unwavering support for the sport of padel, which was launched at NAS and the sports championship later became popular throughout the UAE .

Sheikh Saeed praised the success and high level of competition at the first Nad Al Sheba International Padel Championships.

The President of the UAEEPA praised the victory of the national team players, saying: “Our focus is on developing the national team and strengthening the squad while giving opportunities to some promising new players. We look forward to better results in the future.” Thank you Hessaid also praised Qatar’s performance. It was the UAE’s second major title at the NAS Sports Championship since they won the inaugural GCC Cup last year after beating Qatar in the ninth edition. Eight teams, including the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Iran, participated in the competition.

Faris Al Janahi and Abdullah Al Abdullah got the hosts off to a perfect start with a 6-1, 6-2 first-set win over Qatari duo Jaber Al Mutawa and Khalid Al-Kuwari.

Omar Bahroozian and Abdullah Ahli clinched the title for their country with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Qatari duo Mohammed Al-Kuwari and Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari.

Bahrozian said: “We would like to thank the fans for their overwhelming support and presence throughout the tournament, especially during the semi-finals and final, which gave us enough motivation to win the title.

“The fact that we won the GCC title at the NAS Sports Championship last year and now the international title shows that our national team is improving and proving ourselves fast, especially considering that the tournament has eight teams,” he added.

Elsewhere, Al Jawareh beat defending champion Emperor 3-0 to reach the final of the NAS Volleyball Championship.

They got off to a good start, winning 29-26 in a tight first set. In the second set, Emperor tried to come back, but Al Jawareh’s strong defense stopped their attack. Javare won the second set 26-24. Afterwards, they continued to put pressure on Emperor and won the third game 25-20 to seal their place in the final.

Al Jawareh’s Brazilian foreign aid Dasilva Gabriel scored 16 points, while Emperor’s Amin Ismail also scored the same.

Zabeel defeated Fahud Zabeel in the second semi-final. Fahood Zabeel won the first set 25-22, but Zabeel ended the match with three straight wins 25-13, 25-20, 25-23. Kody Arthur played well in the game, scoring 24 points for the winner.

The final of the NAS Volleyball Championship will be held on Monday in the Nad Al Sheba Sports Center main hall.
