Visitors to Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) can now enjoy a mural by an Emirati artist depicting a famous Arab scientist. The mural adorning buildings in Dubai Medical City is the first phase of DHCC’s Urban Space Improvement Program and features the work of Ahmed Al Mahri.

Al Mahri has been given a platform to create artwork that mimics the character of the city on the walls of buildings within the free zone—a partnership that highlights the mutual benefits of cross-sectoral collaboration.

Salim Al Amoudi, Director of Marketing and Communications at Dubai Healthcare City Authority, the governing body of DHCC, said: “We are always looking for new ways to engage with our business partners and enhance our overall experience for our stakeholders and visiting patients.” “This new city improvement plan is the next step in our efforts to enhance the local arts scene and enhance the appeal of our buildings and facilities. It is a testament to our confidence in local talent and our commitment to supporting their success, ’ he added.

He said the partnership with Al Mahri stemmed from a strong belief in the importance of supporting Emirati creators by giving them a platform to showcase their talent.

DHCC is dedicated to celebrating the physicians, philosophers and scientists who have played key roles in the region’s rich medical history. This is evident in the names of buildings within the free zone, including Al Razi, Ibn Sina Medical Complex, Al Zahrawi Building and Ahmad Kazim Building, among others. This artistic collaboration is a visual translation of DHCC’s strategy of presenting this history to the widest possible audience.

The murals in Al Mahri showcase the region’s ancient medical history by highlighting some of the Arab world’s most eminent scientists. The artist’s work pays homage to this tradition through soft patterns and colors and crisp Arabic calligraphy, while highlighting some of Dubai’s most famous landmarks.

According to Al Mahri, the collaboration with DHCC is the most important of his career as it is the ideal opportunity to showcase a work of art that embodies the identity of one of Dubai’s most famous destinations. “My work showcases the noble message of DHCC and the rich Arab heritage in the field of medicine. Thank you DHCC for placing their trust in me. It has been a great experience working on this project and I see it as my contribution to solidifying Dubai as an artistic, creative and small contribution to its status as a center of cultural diversity,” Al Mahri said.

Al Mahri grew up in an art-loving family and showed a passion for drawing from an early age. Always gravitating toward exotic designs, he began mixing them with Arabic and Asian cultures. Arabic calligraphy has always been an important element in the work of the Emirati, who left his signature on the gate of the Al Ain Club and has exhibited his work at the Thika Art and Design Festival and the Al Fadi Historic District.
