Parts of the UAE were hit with hail and heavy rain on Thursday, with the hail falling thick and hard. A video posted by Storm Center, head of weather-related social media, showed car windshields cracked and ice particles falling on flooded roads in Fujairah.
Another video showed rain gushing down a valley road in Khor Fakkan, with torrents carrying away a rubbish bin.
Another photo showed a road suddenly flooded as water flowed down a hill in Khor Fakkan. Both vehicles appeared to have broken down in tire-deep water.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) released a video showing a waterfall forming in Fujairah.
In some videos, residents are seen scooping up ice cubes and playing with them.
Authorities advised residents to avoid areas prone to flash flooding.
NCM reported freezing rain in parts of Dibba Al Hisn, Khor Fakkan and Fujairah in Sharjah.
The storm center shared a video showing a resident startled as the ice fell:
The NCM also reported rain in Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman on Thursday.
The Metropolitan Office is forecasting more rain on Friday. Authorities said earlier that March is considered the last month of winter and temperatures will start to rise, “especially in the second half of the month”.
