Some 350 people of various nationalities, cultures and beliefs gathered for yoga on Saturday under the iconic dome of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi.
Organized by the Museum in partnership with the Indian Embassy, ​​the event kicks off the ninth International Yoga Day on June 21st. Diverse participation with this year’s theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The World is One Family).
In a virtual speech, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, highlighted the power of yoga to connect millions of people to United, they all long for health and peace of mind.
“Together we celebrate the beautiful and powerful practice of yoga, its traditions and core values. We embrace the shared human quest for well-being, self-realization and relationship with nature, the world and our fellow human beings,” he said.
The minister also highlighted the “transformative qualities” of yoga, which promotes peace, happiness and harmony. “Yoga’s holistic approach fosters a deep reverence for life, rooted in the core concepts of unity of body and mind, thought and action, and harmony between man and nature,” he said, recognizing the practice as an ancient gift from India to the world .
The values ​​promoted through yoga are “fully in line with the principles held dear by the people of the UAE”, he added.
“We are committed to promoting friendship and understanding with all nations around the world. As Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, I wholeheartedly support yoga practitioners in their commitment to promoting harmony among all people while spreading immense physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits Global Yoga.”
The event includes a 40-minute workshop led by certified instructors who guide participants through a shared yoga protocol. Schoolchildren also took an active part in the meeting, along with members of the diplomatic community. India’s Ambassador to the UAE, Sunjay Sudhir, was also present.
As a gesture of sustainability and wellness, all participants received a plant as a token of appreciation.
