Pakistani-American actress and model Saeeda Imtiaz was reportedly found dead in her room on Tuesday morning, according to a post on her official Instagram account.

A black-and-white photo of the UAE-born, New York-raised actress was uploaded to her Instagram account along with a text that read:

“It is with heavy hearts that we regret to inform you that Saida Imtiaz passed away this morning as she was found dead in her room. Rest in peace (sic).” The note was signed “Admin”.

Fans were stunned by the news, with many taking to Twitter to express their disappointment at the sudden and devastating news. “May her soul rest in peace,” one account posted; “shocking, tragic news,” another said.

However, in shocking turn of events, the actress revealed that she is actually alive and said her death was the result of her Instagram account being hacked.

In a video uploaded to her Instagram page, the purple-clad actress spoke solemnly to the camera about the bizarre incident. “After all that I’ve been through, I’m exhausted now,” reads the video’s caption.

“I don’t know why anyone would do that,” Imtiaz said in the video. She explained that she woke up that morning to a flood of calls and texts asking about her welfare, adding that the situation had sent her into a state of shock.

She added that the rumors had also sent her siblings and mother into a panic, none of whom lived with her in Pakistan. The actress went on to explain that someone had hacked her Facebook and Instagram accounts and condemned the attempts to cause pain to her family.

“I understand making fun of or bullying someone,” she said, “but I don’t understand bullying someone to the point of hurting them or their family.” Friends of the actress also confirmed on social media that she is alive and well. Well, criticizing those who hacked her account for spreading false, hurtful rumors.

The Abu Dhabi-born actress made her film debut in the Pakistani film “Birth of a Legend” as cricketer Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith. She gained a significant fan base on the popular Bigg Boss-esque reality show “Tamasha Ghar”.
