MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) – The Wharton Wan County Recreation Association is back for the concert season. After the hiatus, the association has allowed bands to tune their instruments for the first time since 2019.
“It’s a great feeling because you can see people coming in in the hallways and they respond that they want the music back,” said Tom Losey, WCEA Concert Membership President.
The crowd filled the seats in St James Armstrong’s Auditorium. Audiences enjoyed the musical styles of the St. James Cowboys and the Copper Street Brass Band.
Tim Bradley, artistic director of Copper Street Brass, said: “The fact that we’re a small group and we make our own music really helps us reach their audiences, especially in smaller towns.”
Like many other music organizations, WCEA nearly collapsed during the pandemic, but with the push of its membership chair, they were able to increase membership by 32 percent, and they now have a full concert schedule ready. The price is good.
“You can see world-class musicians for the price of a movie ticket,” Losey said.
The society has been running shows for over 50 years, and thanks to a resurgence in membership and interest, it doesn’t look like the show will stop anytime soon.
