NEW YORK (AP) — Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is back in the New York prison system after nearly two years on trial in California. Convicted of raping an Italian actor and model.

Weinstein is serving time at the Wendt Correctional Facility near Buffalo before being extradited to California in 2021.
Weinstein flew back to New York on April 5. A spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said the department chose to transfer Weinstein to the medium-security Mohawk prison in central New York after reviewing his treatment and program needs.
Weinstein, who co-founded the entertainment company Miramax with his brother Bob, was one of the most powerful executives in the film industry until, starting in 2017, multiple women publicly accused him of rape, battery and sexual harassment. His accusers include high-profile actors such as Annabella Sciorra and Ashley Judd.
Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting two women in New York and 16 years in Los Angeles.
Weinstein, 71, suffered from health problems including heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea and eye problems, his lawyer said.
Weinstein’s spokeswoman, Juda Engelmayer, said Wednesday, “We anticipate that he will be returned to Wende CF, where he was in protective care and where all the doctors who were treating his very serious illness and vision loss were there.”
