The incident cost Hamilton a record eighth title and the Briton has been unable to challenge Verstappen for the world title since Mercedes suffered a major regulatory overhaul in 2022.
Melander also revealed the special way Hamilton followed the safety car when leading the race.
“Lewis always hides a bit behind the car,” the 51-year-old German explained. “You always have to look in the blind spot—where is he?”
