Angel – megan you stallion Meghan’s former close friend and aide said in an interview recorded for jurors on Friday that she saw rapper Tori Lanez shoot Meghan in the foot.
Interviews with prosecutors began in September after Kelsey Harris said on the witness stand Wednesday that she did not see Lanez shoot her former friend and boss and could not remember other key details. in the Los Angeles attack trial.
“He was shooting,” Harris said in the recording, describing seeing Lanez standing next to an SUV in the Hollywood Hills, leaning over the front passenger door, pointing a gun near Meghan. ground.
Canadian rapper Lanez, 30, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, pleaded not guilty to gross negligent shooting, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
Harris was one of four people in the SUV, along with the two rappers and Lanez’s bodyguard and driver. The four were leaving a small gathering at Kylie Jenner’s home on July 12, 2020, when the incident occurred. She said Meghan and Lanez had an argument that turned into insults to each other’s careers.
Prosecutors played parts of their interview with Harris during Harris’ trial testimony. She was granted immunity in the case, but not for perjury.
Harris said on the witness stand that she was “dishonest” about certain things in the September interview.
The judge allowed the prosecution to play the entire 78-minute tape for the jury in a rare move after Lanez’s lawyers suggested during cross-examination that Harris was under pressure to make the statement she made.
Harris was gracious in the taped interview, in stark contrast to her evasive and sometimes combative time on the witness stand, and prosecutors rarely had to prompt her in her statement. She said in the recording that she had drunk as much as others in the car and was about to get out of the car when she heard several shots fired. Then she looked up to see Lanez firing more shots.
On the witness stand, she denied she fired the shot herself, but would not say Lanez did. When confronted with a text she sent to Meghan’s manager that read, “Help. Tory shoots Meg. 911,” Harris said she simply assumed Lanez had shot.
Harris said in the recording that the incident estranged her from Meghan, and she hasn’t seen her in person since. The pair, who met while students at Prairie View A&M University in Texas, have remained close friends for years, and she has been by Meghan’s side throughout her journey to hip-hop stardom.
Harris said she returned home to Houston when she was told Meghan might take a long time to recover. She and Meghan had filmed the “WAP” video with Cardi B in Los Angeles. This track will make Meghan an even bigger star than she already is.
Harris’ description of the night on the tape roughly matches Meghan’s description in her testimony on Tuesday, but differ in detail. Harris said Lanez remained silent when he fired the shot. Megan testified that he yelled, “Dance, b——!” as he shot at her.
Lanez’s lawyer, George Mgdesyan, argued during the trial that no one saw Lanez shoot. Megan testified that she saw it, but Mgdesyan said the injury to the back of her foot meant she couldn’t see the shooter clearly behind her.
Police were unable to extract DNA or fingerprints from the gun used in the shooting.
Since starting his career in 2009, Lanez has had success with mixtapes and major label recordings, with his last two albums reaching the top 10 of the Billboard charts.
Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 2021 and reached No. one.
