Woke Gen Z is bent on destroying entertainment

[ad_1]

Gen Z? More like a generation BuZZkill.

Thanks to this bunch of introverted little slurs, the future of TV and movies is more dire than the post-pandemic viewership struggles and slumping movie box office slumps suggest.

One Shocking new research from UCLA Gen Z kids ages 13 to 18, and overripe corn sons born between 2004 and 2009, were asked about their viewing habits, and the depressing conclusion was pretty much: enjoy anything over 90 seconds long as fun and frivolous , and you can still.

If trends continue, soon our favorite escapist pastime will be even rarer than a wheelbarrow on the freeway or a New York street corner without the smell of marijuana.

You see, young people want to replace “Avatar” and “Elvis” with TikTok dances, Little Miss memes, and social justice tirade. Because the internet and MSNBC don’t give us enough of that. Z asks for more!

The study noted that teens “completely rejected aspirational stories” – meaning funny stories about flirtatious people richer than them. Think classic musical comedies like “Anything Goes” or costume dramas like “Downton Abbey.” You know, pleasant things.

These eccentric kids claim to prefer frustrating real-life stories filled with relatable, womp-womp questions. that track. Teens addicted to ‘euphoria’ hyperbaric (Unless God forbid, Sydney Sweeney falls in the barn). that series, Emmy winner Zendaya starringDrugs, sex, abuse and even “toxic positivity” involving high school age – a phrase that makes me want to skip town and become a Galapagos hermit.

They also flock to “sex education” Netflixa show that tackles teenage sexual identity issues.

Be careful, “Dragon Palace” About fictional, incestuous warring royals. Gen Z wants you to fuel the fire.

Of course, if they’re actually watching TV or a movie. One 2021 Deloitte Survey It was found that only 10% of Gen Z rank these pasts as their number one home entertainment option, unlike any other previous generation. These dwarves prefer intellectual pursuits such as social media, web browsing, and video games.

That’s still the case in 2022, which is shocking. Over the past few years, we’ve all been so familiar with doom-rolling, angry online squabbles that we’ve forgotten how to talk to other people face-to-face. Sensible adults are currently trying to undo the damage. However, Gen Z wants to go a step further – staring at their phones all day, addicted to the news, and seeing fun as something repulsive and evil.

I guess, we can hope that as they get older, they’ll grow out of it and gain some taste. After all, the counterculture hippies of yesteryear are now looking forward to the Met’s “Rose Knight.” And I hope millions of 45-year-old men and women are never filmed doing string dances.

But these days, Hollywood, obsessed with youth, is prone to knee-jerk reactions that major disruptive changes may be taking place. Soon every TV show and movie will be numbly awakened and boring, and aimed at consumers who won’t even watch them.

In the meantime, you and I will entertain our grandkids with “comedy” and “sci-fi” stories while they cancel us on Snapchat.
