A woman fell on the witness stand while giving vivid evidence about a night when she said she woke from a coma to find actor Danny Masterson raped her.
She is the first of three women who say Masterson raped them to give evidence during the Los Angeles trial. At one point, she said, she grabbed Masterson by his hair and tried to pull him away, but he shoved a pillow into her face.
“I was suffocated,” she cried. “I can’t breathe.”
She said she later grabbed him by the throat and tried to push him away, but he held her down and started choking her.
Asked by the prosecutor what she was thinking, she replied: “He’s going to kill me. I’m going to die.”
By this time she was already crying. After she said “I can’t do that,” the judge asked for a short break and a court victim services advocate comforted her on the witness stand.
When she came forward again, she testified that Masterson pulled a gun from a drawer of his bedside table and ordered her to be quiet when there was commotion and noise at the door.
She said she was in a coma throughout the night despite drinking only about half the fruity vodka Masterson handed her.
The woman, who was 27 at the time, was the best friend of Masterson’s assistant and part of the social circle of members of the Church of Scientology.
Masterson, 46, then the star of the sitcom ’70s show, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape.
His lawyers are scheduled to question the woman later on Wednesday.
Masterson’s former defense attorney argued that all three women redefined consensual sex as rape.
