ARLINGTON, March 20 (AP) — Two students were injured Monday morning in a shooting outside a Dallas-area high school and police arrested the person suspected of opening the fire, officials said.
According to police and school district officials, the shooting began around 6:55 a.m. on a high school campus in suburban Arlington, when many students were returning to school for their first day after spring break.
Anita Foster, a spokeswoman for the Arlington Independent School District, said one student was shot and another was injured by “shrapnel from the shot,” and both were receiving medical attention. She could not immediately provide additional information about the student’s identity or status.
Arlington police said the suspect never entered the Lamar High School building and was arrested shortly after officers arrived at the scene.

They said in a tweet at 7:21 a.m. that the scene was safe, but had not released further information about the shooter.
Foster said the bus and other arriving students were removed from the campus before classes began.
Officials urged parents and others to stay off campus while police investigated. Police said at 10.40am they had completed their search of the school premises and the students would be released to their guardians at the “unity center” from noon. (Associated Press)
