The officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave.

Police said officers were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the driveway around 4 a.m. They found a man sitting in the driver’s seat with a gun and appeared to be sleeping.

An officer knocked on the car window and announced: “Police. Hands up,” Indianapolis police said.

It was not immediately clear what prompted officers to open fire, but police said detectives found a handgun in the driver’s seat.

During the shooting, officers activated multiple body cameras, the department said.

Police have not released the name of the injured man or the officer. (Associated Press)
