kabul [Afghanistan]March 14 (ANI): The Taliban-led Afghan Foreign Ministry has informed its diplomats to attend a training program organized by India from March 14-17, read a memo issued by the ministry in Kabul, Khaama Press News agency reported.

The memorandum was issued by Mufti Nurullah Azzam, the Taliban’s director-general of foreign affairs. According to the memo, the Indian embassy provided unofficial information about a short course run by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) for foreign ministry employees under the caretaker Taliban regime.

For the first time since the Taliban took control of Kabul in August 2021, Taliban diplomats will take part in a training program in India.

However, the source said the course was supported by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), part of India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was open to students “from all over the world, including Afghanistan”.

The course, which is only offered online, is available to Afghan students, the Khaama Press News Agency reported. An Indian government official said that while no students were invited to India, all are welcome to enroll in the course and we do not discriminate against Afghans, adding that Delhi does not recognize the Taliban, its foreign ministry or its diplomats.

According to ITEC’s website, the course will give participants a deeper understanding of India’s business, environment, culture, history and regulatory ecosystem.

However, most Afghan students stranded in Afghanistan since the Taliban came to power reacted strongly to the Taliban’s online courses, saying New Delhi has since revoked all visas, preventing them from completing their studies in India.

The students include those who received Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships for 2021 but were unable to return to complete their degrees after returning to Afghanistan during the Covid-19 lockdown, Khaama Press News Agency reported. (Arnie)
