Beijing [China]February 8 (ANI): Veterans of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have been installed in village committees by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to strengthen the CCP’s control over the masses and ensure their utmost loyalty to President Xi Jinping.

Contrary to actual motives, the CCP claims that this placement of PLA veterans will play a constructive role in grassroots governance and help revitalize by supporting development-related activities.

The CCP has also installed multiple video surveillance facilities and checkpoints in Tibet. Beyond that, the CCP has been nurturing Chinese technology companies through the CCP playbook to monitor, censor, and moderate online public opinion, and to support a state-driven agenda that promotes absolute control over the country’s cyberspace.

It noted that surveillance tools were used to conduct intensive surveillance operations against target groups deemed to pose a threat to social stability.

State Surveillance: Democracy and Dictatorship argues that the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to expand and strengthen its global political and economic influence stem from the proliferation of Chinese surveillance technologies and cyber tools and related alliances between Chinese state-owned and private institutions.

“The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) plays a key role in exercising laws that enforce a strict regulatory environment and a strategy to seize power in China’s cybersecurity. Israel, on the other hand, is a startup nation. The Internet, its free access, is the foundation of innovation and its Plenty of unicorns to be proud of.”

In 1990, China’s State Council legalized a proposal to establish a national information system, it said.

The Golden Shield Project (GSP), commonly known as the “Great Firewall of China,” is a surveillance program launched in 1998 to create a fully digitalized public security sector using the state surveillance network by imposing controls on data management. The project also includes a national closed-circuit television (CCTV) network aimed at digitizing the public sector. In the early days of GSP’s development, it relied on technology made in the United States and Canada. Companies such as IBM, Intel, Cisco, and Oracle provided hardware and software for China’s surveillance network.

The project includes 416 million surveillance cameras across the country that operate using artificial intelligence (AI) facial recognition technology. GSP advancements also include the development of geolocation technology; surveillance systems that support vehicle and people tracking.

Beyond that, Chinese technology companies are legally obliged to meet the requirements of national security services. China has acted under its online sovereignty policy, requiring tech giants like Tencent to shut down websites that host content that threatens China’s social and political stability.

Similarly, Chinese social media platform Weibo was condemned in 2018 for allowing the government to censor certain hashtags and posts to dispel rumors about China. The CCP’s technology-enhanced authoritarianism is expanding globally, and it intends to shape, manage, and control its overseas operations to neutralize alleged threats to China’s political interests. China uses multilateral institutions such as the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and other emerging market blocs to promote its surveillance technology. (Arnie)
