Kathmandu [Nepal]February 25 (ANI): Former Nepal House Speaker Subash Chandra Nembwang on Saturday submitted his nomination for the presidential elections scheduled for March 9.

Earlier today, another former Nepalese House speaker, Ram Chandra Poudel, also submitted his nomination for the presidency.

In a show of power, the two leaders arrived at the offices of election officials inside the federal parliament on Saturday to submit their candidacy.

The candidate of Nembwang for vice-chairman of Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist-Leninists (CPN-UML) was proposed by CPN Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Deputy General Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung, Secretaries Gokarna Raj Bista, Raghubir Mahaseth and Chhabilal Bishwakarma.

Other leaders of the same party, Yogesh Bhattarai, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Juli Kumari Mahaseth, Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa and Aman Kumar Maskey supported the proposal.

“We have followed all the procedures to apply for candidacy and have received a registration certificate. We have full confidence that we will protect our interests for the benefit of the country and not politics, for the benefit of the people and the country.” Chairman of CPN-UML Speaking to the media after submitting his candidature, KP Sharma Oli said: “The Constitution and its implementation, protection, implementation and coordination of the process have come up with this candidacy.”

A CPN-ML central secretariat meeting held early Saturday morning decided to nominate Nemwang as a candidate for the chairmanship. The party secretariat meeting also decided to contact other political parties outside the Congress to win votes for Nembwang.

Paudel’s candidacy was put forward by Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (United Socialism) Nepal President Madhav Kumar, Maoist Center Senior Vice President Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Janata Samajbadi Party Federation Council Chairman Ashok Rai and Janamat Party’s Abdul Khan .

The candidate was seconded by Loktantrik Samajbadi Party chairman Mahanta Thakur, Congress vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka, Nagarik Unmukti party chairman Ranjita Shrestha, Rastriya Janamorcha Chitra Bahadur KC chairman and Maoist Center’s Hitraj Pandey.

“It will take time to protect the constitution and its effective implementation and institutionalize the federal republic, and we will work on that,” Podel told reporters.

Earlier today, Congress chose Poudel as its presidential candidate after eight political parties, including the ruling CPN-Maoist Centre, decided to back the congressional candidate for the presidential election scheduled for March 9. (ANI)
