Speaking at an Indian-American gathering at India House, the commerce secretary fondly recalled her Holi celebrations in India this year.

“I was in India recently. I went a day early so that I could have the opportunity to participate in Holi. The minister of defense hosted me and his family very graciously,” Raimondo said on Saturday.

“Now I will be honest. (I asked) my opponent, the energetic Piyush Goyal (Minister of Commerce and Industry), what can I expect? He said, well, you might get a little dirty. It’s not a big deal. Wear some of your Shoes that you don’t like. Don’t wear your best shoes,” she said at the rally, which was part of an event attended by federal Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and top Biden administration officials.

“I said okay, I don’t know what I am, you know, because. Three days later, my hair is still losing color,” Raimondo said.

It was fantastic and showcased the best of India – family culture, traditions, celebrations, she said, adding that it was her greatest honor to be a part of it.

“In fact, when (Minister of Foreign Affairs) Mr Jaishankar, as many of you know, I used to think he was a very formal guy, he came to me, took a fist full of color, and (smeared) all over his face .I hit him back right away. It was a great moment for me. I am grateful to have received such a warm welcome from India,” Raimondo said.
