colombo [Sri Lanka]May 4 (ANI): Indian Air Force Chief VR Chaudhari met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on the second day of his four-day visit to the island nation and discussed bilateral relations.

The IAF chief also met Sri Lankan Defense Minister (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne and Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva.

In its tweet on Thursday, the Indian Air Force informed of the IAF Chief’s meeting with Sri Lankan officials, writing: “On the second day of his ongoing visit to Sri Lanka, CAS Air Force Chief VR Chaudhari met with respected Sri Lankan Interactive Cdr of Prime Minister Shri Dinesh Gunawardena, Defense Minister Gen (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, CDS Gen Shavendra Silva and SL Army Lt Gen Vikum Liyanage.”

During the interaction, the Chief of Air Staff discussed strengthening military ties between India and Sri Lanka.

“In his interactions with dignitaries and military officials, CAS had meaningful discussions on promoting military relations between the two countries. He also paid tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Indian soldiers by laying a wreath at the #IPKF Memorial,” Indian Air Force issued tweets.

As part of the ongoing visit, Indian Air Force Chief VR Chaudhari called on Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on the first day of his visit on Wednesday.

During the visit, the IAF chief also met with the island nation’s defense minister, national security adviser and Sri Lankan air force and navy commanders, the IAF said.

The bilateral talks between the two leaders ensured that the Indian Air Force remains committed to Sri Lanka in times of India’s need.

In addition, the Chief of Air Force Staff (CAS) also gave a speech at the prestigious Sri Lanka Defense Academy.

In an official press release, the Ministry of Defense said the visit of the Indian Air Force Chief to Sri Lanka will strengthen the existing professional ties and ties of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Indian Air Force Commander Chaudhari is currently on a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of Sri Lankan Air Force Chief Marshal SK Pathirana. (Arnie)
