KATHMANDU, May 18 (PTI) Indian climber Piyali Basak who climbed Mount Makalu has been rescued from the mountain after encountering some difficulties on his descent, organizers said.
Piyali, who climbed Mount Makalu without supplemental oxygen on Wednesday, was struck above Camp IV on the 8,485-meter peak, Pioneer Adventure chairman Pasang Sherpa said.

“Piyali was successfully rescued from an altitude of 7,800 meters by a team of three skilled Sherpas,” Pasang said.
“She knew and kept talking,” he added.
“Piyali has now been brought back to Camp III from where she will be airlifted by helicopter to Kathmandu on Friday morning,” he told PTI by phone.
“All necessary precautions have been taken to ensure a smooth and safe descent,” he added, “and she is being provided with all necessary support and medical assistance.”
“Piyali was very slow and when she reached about 7,800 meters from the summit point she couldn’t move,” said Sherpa.
Piali is one of four Indian mountaineers to have climbed the fifth highest mountain in the world.
Six Sherpa mountaineering guides, including Andawa Sherpa, also successfully climbed Makalu in the expedition team organized by Pioneer Expeditions.
