VIENNA, Jan. 1 (PTI) – Foreign Minister Jaishankar Jaishankar held talks with his Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg on Sunday, his first diplomatic event in 2023.
Jaishankar, who arrived from Cyprus as the second leg of his two-country tour, also met Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer before attending the country’s prestigious Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s concert.

“Nice to meet my good friend Alexander Schallenberg in Vienna. My first diplomatic engagement will be in 2023. Thank you for inviting us to the traditional New Year’s Concert in Vienna,” Jaishankar tweeted wrote.
This is India’s first EAM-level visit to Austria in the past 27 years and it comes in the context of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2023.

Jaishankar also met Bulgarian President Rumen Georgiev Radev and discussed bilateral cooperation.
“Meeting in Vienna with Bulgarian President Rumen Georgiev Radev was a pleasure. Discussed strengthening our cooperation in the context of Make in India, nearshoring and building resilient supply chains,” he said wrote on Twitter.
During his visit, Jaishankar will chair several important high-level bilateral meetings and address the strong Indian community here.
Schallenberg visited India in March 2022.
