Meet the UAE’s first babies of 2023

DUBAI: From the stroke of midnight, hospitals across the UAE began to welcome the babies of citizens and expatriates alike, giving their parents double joy on New Year’s Day. While some parents choose to greet their joy on this special day, some newborns make their arrival special by giving birth naturally.

As the clock struck 12 and the calendar slipped to 2023, two baby girls were delivered at two different hospitals, ensuring they would be the country’s first babies born in 2023.

Hana was born at Medeor Hospital in Abu Dhabi to Egyptian parents Asmaa Mamdouh Elsayed Ahmed and Eid Ahmed Mahmoud Hassane, while Elham Jameel was born at International Modern Hospital (IMH) in Dubai to Indian parents Alshifa Moosa and Ehthisham Jameel.

Coincidentally, both of them are the third child in their respective families.

Hana weighed 3.22 kg and was delivered by Dr. Walid El-Sherbiny (Professor), Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology and HOD at Medeor Hospital.

Parents Asma and Hassan are on top of the world. “We were so lucky to welcome our beautiful baby girl into the world on New Year’s Day. We couldn’t be happier to start the year with such a special new addition to the family. She is already well loved and we are so excited to see her grow And experience all the joys of life,” Hassan said.

Doctors and nurses celebrate this unique occasion by sharing sweets and well wishes with the family.

“Celebrating the New Year by welcoming life into the world is a time of happiness and we are honored to support this family. On this special day, we all come together to welcome the birth of little Hana. It is a time for the entire hospital to celebrate. Everyone Newborns are a reminder of the hope and promise that the New Year brings. The staff at Medeor Hospital send warm greetings to parents and babies,” said Dr. El-Sherbiny.

The festivities were also held at the IMH in Dubai. “It’s time to ring in the New Year and there’s no better news than our own New Year’s baby. We’re delighted and honored to have our own celebration in the maternity ward with the arrival of Elham Jameel,” said Maternity And gynecologist Dr. Meera T. Anto said she delivered a baby weighing 3.15 kilograms.

“We are grateful for the Almighty’s wonderful blessings on our lives. The New Year brings joy, hope and prosperity and we welcome a new addition to our family, our third adorable little princess,” said the beaming dad.

Another baby girl arrived at the Indian couple at Thumbay University Hospital in Ajman at 12.03am at the beginning of the new year. Her parents Kashmiri Mallick Ashraf and Asfar Imam named her Irha Fatima.

“We are so excited to hold our little angel on such a special day. Our baby Irha Fatima surprised us, but its a dream come true! May Allah bless us all and wish you all a Happy New Year, ’ said one elated father.

Dr. Kasturi Mummigatti, a specialist and clinical lecturer at the Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, helped deliver the baby via caesarean section, he said. “As doctors, we are honored to be the first to have a new life into this world. Baby girl Ilha Fatima is the first new year baby in our hospital. Wishing the baby and parents all the best for the future life Be healthy and happy, and wish you all a Happy New Year.”

Abu Dhabi’s Burjeel Medical City recorded a record number of deliveries in the early hours of New Year’s Day. Four couples ushered in the new year and their baby was born.

A few seconds after the fireworks went off, at 12.08 am, Bangladeshi couple Rahela Sultana and Mohamed Fazlul Siddique gave birth to baby girl Sayeda Farishta Siddique.

She was delivered by Dr Ritu Nambiar, BMC Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist.

“On this wonderful New Year’s Day, we are blessed to welcome our beautiful daughter into the world. We are grateful for her safe arrival and for all the love and joy she has brought into our lives,” Siddiq said.

Thai mother Sugynya Thai and Emirati father Abdulla Mohamed Ahmed Husain Al Ali gave birth to baby girl Lateefa at BMC at 1.35am. The parents welcomed their second child, weighing 3.35 kg.

Baby boy Hassan was born to Emirati couple Shaikha Abd Al Rahman and Hamad Hassan Al Marri at 3.30am. Baby Hassan weighs 3.060 kg and is the fourth child in the family.

Baby boy Mayed was born at 4.47am in BMC to Emirati parents. Naseema Masoud and Fahad Aldhuhoori welcomed their second child weighing 2.60kg.

Dr Ritu wished all the babies and their parents well and said she was delighted to be a part of the family’s well-being.

“We are delighted to receive newborns at Burjeel Medical City on this special night. It is a double joy for the parents and for us. New Year’s Day is a special day for every family and newborns born on this day Having a baby is a blessing. Let us celebrate this wonderful occasion and wish the family all the best for the coming year,” said Dr Ritu.

Indian couple Navodita and Anshuman welcomed their baby girl at 1.13am at Prime Hospital in Dubai. She was delivered by Dr. Varsha Ohja, Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Anshuman, who felt happy, said: “There are few things that make life worthwhile. This is one of the happiest moments in my life.”

At 2 o’clock in the morning, the hospital ushered in the second baby of the new year. Baby boy Musthafa is born to Egyptian Mahmoud and Nancy. An excited Mahmoud said he thanked God and was happy to stay in Dubai with his newborn. Dr Nermeen Kamal, obstetrician and gynecologist at Prime Hospital, said it was one of the happiest days of her career.

Filipino couple Bianca Salindong and Ivy Louise Verayo also celebrated the New Year by welcoming their second child at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi. Baby boy Johann Jio S. Verayo was born at 1.18 am and weighed 3.76 kg.

Medcare Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Dubai welcomed its first baby of the year at 2.15am. Baby boy Zain was born to Syrian parents Wesam Abo Moghdeb and Raneem Ghassan.

Meanwhile, Al Ain NMC Specialist Hospital welcomed the birth of two Emirati boys at 2.30am.

Muaded Mohammed Muaded Rashed Hamad Aldhaheri was born Maitha Rashed and Mohammed Muaded Rashed Hamed Alqaheri, while Hamdan Saif Alqmzi was born Aysha Abdulla Alketbi and Saif Kalfan Alqmzi.

Abu Dhabi’s NMC Specialist Hospital also welcomed a baby boy, Muhammad Zohaan, at 2.56am. He was born to Pakistani parents Sara Aftab Muhammad and Zeeshan Zulfiqar.

“The birth of our third child during the New Year celebrations in 2023 has brought great happiness to our family,” said the father.

“Sara and I were pregnant and delivered for the second time together. I am so happy that she welcomed baby Zohaan on New Year’s Day. So many blessings for the baby and his family,” said Dr. Sunita Gupta, who delivered the baby via C-section.
