LONDON, Jan. 18 (AP) – A man was charged Tuesday with attacking Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after the team’s Premier League game against Tottenham.
The Metropolitan Police have charged Joseph Watts, 35, with assault, the Press Association of Britain reported.
Watts is due to appear at Highbury Magistrates’ Court in London on February 17.
Ramsdale appeared to be kicked in the back by a spectator after picking up a water bottle from behind one of the goals following Arsenal’s 2-0 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Spectators were seen jumping over railings and installing billboards before the Ramsdale attack.
Ramsdale, who appeared to be unhurt, was dragged away from the area by his team-mates before celebrating in front of Arsenal supporters at the other end of the Tottenham Hotspur pitch.
The Football Association has strongly condemned the incident.
“This is completely unacceptable behaviour,” the governing body said. “We will work with the police, relevant authorities and the club to ensure appropriate action is taken.” (Associated Press)
