New Delhi [India]June 8 (ANI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday named Upender Singh Rawat as India’s next High Commissioner to Uganda.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a press release that Upender Singh Rawat was an officer of the Indian External Affairs Service (IFS) in the 1998 batch. He is currently serving as India’s ambassador to Panama. Rawat is expected to accept the assignment soon.

“The current Indian Ambassador to the Republic of Panama, Shri Upender Singh Rawat (IFS: 1998), has been appointed as the next Indian High Commissioner to the Republic of Uganda,” the MEA said in a release.

Upender Singh Rawat is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. According to a profile shared by the Indian embassy in Panama, Upender Singh Rawat was a physics lecturer before joining the Indian government.

After joining IFS, he held various positions as a career diplomat. He initially worked as a third secretary at the Indian Embassy in Buenos Aires, where he also studied Spanish.

Upender Singh Rawat has served in the Indian diplomatic missions in Slovakia, UK and Mexico. He also served as deputy head of delegation at the Indian embassy in South Korea, according to the Indian embassy in Panama.

Before arriving in Panama as India’s ambassador, he was appointed Joint Secretary at the Department of E-Government, Information Technology and Cyber ​​Diplomacy at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
