washington [US]April 19 (ANI): Facebook parent Meta will begin new company-wide layoffs on Wednesday as part of a restructuring of its team and management hierarchy, The Washington Post reports.
Meta’s head of human resources, Lori Goler, wrote late Tuesday that the company will begin notifying employees about layoffs in its technology team, according to an internal memo read by a U.S. newspaper.

Meta is also preparing to announce a newly restructured team and management hierarchy as the social media giant seeks to become leaner and more efficient.
The layoffs will affect teams at Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and virtual reality unit Reality Labs, among others, Goler said. According to the memo, Goler advised some employees not to come into the office unless it was essential to their role. Senior leadership made the decision to cut staff as part of a broader restructuring effort, Goler added. “This will be a difficult time as we say goodbye to friends and colleagues who have contributed so much to Meta,” she wrote. “Everyone – whether they left or stayed – will need time to process tomorrow’s news and I know the team will help each other with compassion, support and care,” she added.
The company expects to lay off thousands of highly skilled workers, such as engineers and other technicians, who help develop the company’s products, according to people familiar with the matter.
Earlier, in March, Meta said they would be laying off 10,000 employees from their team.
“We expect to reduce the size of our team by approximately 10,000 people and close approximately 5,000 additional open positions that we have not yet hired,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement on Meta.
He further stated: “This is going to be tough and there is no way around it. It will mean saying goodbye to talented and passionate colleagues who have been a part of our success. They are committed to our mission and my personal thanks to all of them Thanks for their efforts.”
He added: “We will continue to support people and treat everyone with the gratitude they deserve.” (Arnie)
