[ad_1]

Islamabad [Pakistan]Jan 11 (ANI): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued bailable arrest warrants for Pakistan Justice Movement for Justice (PTI) chief Imran Khan and other party members Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Omar , the case involved contempt of court election agency, Dawn reported.

During a hearing on Tuesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan rejected the PTI leaders’ plea seeking exemption from appearing at the commission and issued arrest warrants against them, requiring them to pay security deposits of Rs 50,000 each, according to news reports. The four-member ECP judges, led by Member Nisar Durrani, passed the order and adjourned the hearing until January 17.

After the ECP’s decision, PTI leader Asad Umar tweeted: “The Election Commission has issued arrest warrants for Imran Khan, Mere and Fawad Chaudhry. They are engaged in these tasks instead of conducting their own elections. They are themselves guilty of contempt of court It is a crime not to hold elections in Islamabad.”

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry called the ECP’s decision to issue bail orders against them an “insult” to the High Court’s decision. He called it another “biased” decision by ECP members.

He tweeted, “The Electoral Commission’s decision to issue a bail order is an insult to the High Court’s decision, case dated 17th January, today was decided against the rules. Yet another bias from these midget members The decision of the Election Commission. He will initiate contempt proceedings in the High Court.”

In the last hearing, the ECP gave PTI leaders one last chance to appear before the committee and warned that their absence from the committee at the next hearing could result in arrest warrants being issued.

Last year, the ECP served PTI leaders with contempt notices and ordered them to appear before the committee either in person or through their lawyers. However, PTI leaders did not appear before the committee.

According to Dawn, PTI leaders challenged the ECP’s decision in various high courts on the grounds that Section 10 of the Elections Act 2017, a statutory provision on the Commission’s power to punish contempt of court, is unconstitutional.

PTI leaders even sought declaratory immunity from charges in the High Court. On January 3, Pakistan’s Supreme Court allowed the ECP to continue proceedings against Imran Khan Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry in a case related to contempt of electoral bodies. (Arnie)
