Lahore [Pakistan]July 2 (ANI): Senior Pakistani journalist Ayaz Amir was attacked by unidentified assailants as he returned home in Lahore on Friday, local media reported.

Describing the incident, Amir, who has a bruise on his face, said his car was stopped by a car as he was returning from his office after a TV show for Dunya News.

“A man wearing a mask got out of the car and put a collar on my driver,” Dawn quoted Amir as saying.

“When I asked about that person, several other people came up to me, opened my car door, punched me hard in the face and dragged me out of the car,” he added.

Amir said the men also attacked him on the road. He further said that as the road was crowded, people started to gather and the attacker then took his mobile phone and wallet.

The day before the incident, Amir was speaking at a seminar, which was also attended by Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI) President Imran Khan, organized by the Islamabad High Court Bar Association on the theme “Regime Change”. and its consequences,” reported Dawn, in Pakistan.

In his speech, Amir criticized the role of Pakistan’s military establishment and pointed out mistakes made by Imran Khan during his tenure as the country’s prime minister.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI) president Imran Khan strongly condemned the attack.

“I condemn in the strongest terms today’s violence against senior journalist Ayaz Amir in Lahore. Pak has fallen into the worst of fascism, using violence and fake FIRs against journalists, opposition politicians and citizens. When the country loses all moral authority , it resorts to violence,” Imran Khan tweeted.

Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Sheikh Baz took notice of the attack and asked the Punjab Police Inspector General to report it.

The attackers will be arrested and dealt with shortly, he said in a statement, Dawn reported.

“This incident is highly condemned. Justice in the case will be ensured,” the chief minister added.

Journalists, lawyers, activists, politicians and members of civil society strongly condemned the attack on Amir. (ANI)
