New Delhi [India]December 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on being elected as Nepal’s PM. Further strengthen the “friendship” between India and Nepal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that the “unique relationship” between the two countries is based on “deep cultural ties” and people-to-people ties. He tweeted, “Warmest congratulations @cmprachanda on being elected as the Prime Minister of Nepal. The unique relationship between India & Nepal is based on deep cultural connect & warm people-to-people ties. I look forward to working together with you to further strengthen that friendship.”

Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Maoist Center leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the country’s prime minister on Sunday, the presidential office said. “Pushpa Kamal Dahal of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) will be sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Nepal at 4pm (local time) tomorrow,” the Nepal President’s Office said.

Dahal was appointed as Nepal’s prime minister for the third time after receiving support from 169 MPs to form a new government. Dahal, also known as “Prachanda”, was Nepal’s prime minister from 2008-2009 and 2016-2017.

Earlier today, Prachanda applied to the president to be Nepal’s prime minister shortly after a coalition of six parties decided to back him to form the next government.

“A coalition of six parties has decided to elect Pushpa Kamal Dahal as prime minister. An agreement has been reached. Dahal will lead the government for two and a half years and CPN-UML for the remaining two and – half years,” said the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center ) leader Balsaman Pan said.

In the new coalition, CPN-UML has 78, Maoist Center 32, Rastriya Swatantra Party 20, Rastriya Prajatantra Party 14, Janata Samajbadi Party 12, Janamat Party 6, Nagarik Unmukti Party 4 MPs and 3 independent lawmakers back Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Prachanda now has the support of 169 MPs.

Earlier on Sunday, Nepal’s Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel said the Maoist center had decided to withdraw from the ruling coalition. Confirming the Maoist Center’s decision in a phone call with ANI, senior Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Podell said Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” Sun withdrew from the alliance meeting after saying “the alliance has lost its meaning”.
