“People from PPP were caught red-handed while manipulating in Kashmir,” she posted in a video shortly after the vote.

Later, Sardar Zia Qamar of the PPP told Dawn.com over the phone: “This victory reflects the trust that people place in a sincere and humble political worker who is willing to share with them through thick and thin.”

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari congratulated Qamar on Twitter.

Unofficial results showed PTI candidate Mohammad Zamir Khan was the runner-up with 4,942 votes.

According to data shared by the Election Commission, 52,671 ballots were cast in the by-election in the Bagh-II constituency of LA-15, which has 101,146 registered voters, including 48,038 women.

The Election Commission set up 189 polling stations in the constituency, of which 30 were declared sensitive and 20 the most sensitive.

Some 2,500 police officers and 350 paramilitary personnel were deployed in the constituency to maintain law and order.

Witnesses said violence broke out at some polling stations, during which people were injured.

Ashraf Khan, a 65-year-old shop owner, commented that “this election is ostensibly contested by political parties, but internally it is contested by clans”.

“All the parties that are running are begging for votes in the name of clan, not ideology,” he said.

In the video, a man said he was at a polling station as another man, whom he did not name, stamped ballots to rig the election, Dawn reported.

“The entire polling station was taken…Zia Kamal’s people first insulted the moderator and occupied the polling station…The rangers were outside but did nothing, Zia Kamal was sitting right here,” he said .

Sharing another video on Twitter — one of the men counting votes, which he said was “proof” — Bart said, “PPP has started stamping [ballot papers] as well as. Manipulation is unacceptable. “

Separately, Attaullah Tarar, another leader of the PML-N, claimed that his party’s candidate had a “clear lead” in the by-election.

“There have been reports of manipulation, [but] God forbid, PML-N will win. It’s impossible to get 80-90% of votes done on some sites and 30-39% on others,” he tweeted.

In a later tweet, he said, “The results would have been different if 90% of the votes hadn’t been cast at some polling stations.”

On May 23, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari addressed a constituency rally. However, he avoided directly asking voters to vote for his party’s candidate.

Meanwhile, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz addressed an election-related rally in Bagh on June 5, where she called on voters to support her party’s candidate in the by-election. (Arnie)
