WALES, Jan. 18 (AP) — A polar bear attacked and killed two people in a remote village in western Alaska, state troopers said.
The Alaska State Police said they received a report of an attack in Wales on the western end of the Seward Peninsula at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, KTUU reported.
“Initial reports indicate a polar bear entered the community and chased several residents,” the deputies wrote. “The bear fatally attacked an adult female and a juvenile male.”
The bear was shot and killed by a local resident when it attacked the couple, officers said.

The names of the two victims were not released. Soldiers said they were trying to notify families.
The dispatch said soldiers and the National Fish and Game Department were planning to travel to Wales as soon as the weather permitted. (Associated Press)
