New York [United States]18th January (ANI): Noting that reforms of multilateral institutions are a top priority, these reforms should focus on expressing the concerns of developing countries while reflecting the realities of the 21st century, India said it remains concerned about the growing fragmentation of the international landscape.

India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, said at the UN briefing that, as the G20 chair, India will continue to actively participate in the global South and reintegrate the South’s priorities into the G20 process.

“We provide thousands of scholarships every year to foreign students studying in India. Our capacity building efforts tell a similar story. We also launched Mission Life, a global initiative to help the world fight climate change and Promote healthy lifestyles to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals,” she said.

“As chair of the G20, we will continue to be actively engaged in the global South, bringing the South’s priorities back into the G20 process,” she added

The Ambassador referred to the Voices of the Global South Summit, which was held virtually, with 125 countries participating in 10 sessions.

“Our Prime Minister personally drove the opening and closing parts of the summit. Many of these parts have become concrete outcomes, reflecting a commitment to achieving the priorities of the Global South,” she said.

Ruchira Kamboj said the Global North and the Global South need to work together to find solutions to global challenges and said India’s efforts will be guided by the Prime Minister’s call for “One Planet, One Family, One Future”. (Arnie)
