[ad_1]

istanbul [Turkey]Dec. 10 (ANI): Uyghur activists protested near the Chinese consulate in Istanbul’s Sariya district and raised concerns about human rights violations in China’s Xinjiang region.

About 120 to 130 people, mostly women and children, gathered near the Chinese consulate around 10:30 a.m. Friday, reciting verses from the Koran and playing the national anthems of East Turkestan and Turkey.

Notably, the protests took place ahead of Human Rights Day, which is celebrated on December 10, according to the United Nations.

During the protests, Abdulselam Abdullah, a representative of the Uyghur NGO East Turkestan Human Rights (ETHR), called on the international community to save the Uyghur community from extinction and accused Chinese authorities of using Covid-19 control measures as an excuse. Pretext to kill Uyghurs.

Women’s activists Rusen Mahmud and Magfiret Ubul raised the issue of forced marriages and sterilizations under the Chinese regime and called for humanitarian organizations and countries to take joint action against the atrocities in East Turkestan.

Earlier, on the night of 8 December, representatives of the Refah (welfare) party and the NGO Dogu Turkistanlilar Federasyonu (DTF) protested near the Chinese consulate around 8.30pm (local time).

DTF leader Mahmud Damollah has urged the Turkish government to take action to stop the genocide of the Uyghurs, not just issue a statement on the matter.

Protests over Uyghur issues intensified in Turkey after several Uyghurs died in a residential apartment fire in Urumqi on November 24 last month. Since then, there have been about eight protests and demonstrations against China in Turkey. (Arnie)
