Karachi [Pakistan]April 9 (ANI): Sindh Rangers and police claimed to have arrested two terrorists belonging to the outlawed Pakistani Taliban Movement (TTP) in a joint operation, ARY News reported on Sunday.

According to a Rangers spokesman, the joint operation was conducted on intelligence and resulted in the arrests of Mohammad Kamal Khan and Abdul Qadeer, ARY News reported.

The arrested terrorists were involved in the extortion and targeted killing of businessmen in various districts of Karachi, including Sadr, Mangopir and Banaras districts, the spokesman said.

According to details provided by Rangers, the accused had in the past received instructions from Afghan TTP terrorist Afsar Khan alias Arshad. According to ARY News, the captured terrorist will provide Afsar Khan in Afghanistan with the mobile phone number of a local businessman in Karachi.

During the initial investigation, the defendants admitted to sharing the mobile numbers of five businessmen in Karachi with their bosses in Afghanistan. They also confessed to providing racketeering orders and killing two businessmen who did not pay the racketeering money.

The spokesman said the terrorist had been handed over to police for further questioning.

Notably, in an effort to root out terrorism in the country, Pakistan on Friday announced a sweeping anti-terror operation against banned clothing, Geo News reported.

A statement from the prime minister’s office said the country’s top civilian and military leaders attended a two-hour meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif, after which the this progress.

Reflecting the unstable security situation in the country, there has been a recent spike in clashes between terrorists and police in Pakistan following the failure of a ceasefire with the outlawed Pakistani Taliban (TTP), ARY News reported.
