ISLAMABAD, June 15 (PTI) — Britain on Thursday announced the appointment of senior diplomat Jane Marriott as the next British High Commissioner to Pakistan, making her the first female British envoy to Islamabad.
Prior to this appointment, Marriott, 47, had been Kenya’s High Commissioner since September 2019. She will succeed Dr Christian Turner, who left Pakistan in January after serving as special envoy since December 2019.
“Jane, the first female British High Commissioner to Pakistan, will take office in mid-July,” the British High Commission in Islamabad said in a statement.
Marriott joined the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in 2001, having previously served in the Cabinet Office and the Home Office, and brings to her new role extensive thematic and regional experience.

After announcing her appointment, Marriott said she was “very pleased” to be appointed as the next British High Commissioner to Pakistan – “I’m delighted to have visited this country twice”.
“I am looking forward to getting to know this culturally rich and deeply diverse country better. The UK’s relationship with Pakistan is rooted in a shared history. Our people-to-people links link our countries in a common partnership Together, my goal is to further strengthen this partnership,” she said.
