washington [US]On December 16, the U.S. Senate passed a 2023 defense spending bill worth nearly $850 billion, including $10 billion in Taiwan security assistance and $800 million in Ukraine security assistance.

Senators overwhelmingly passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on Thursday and sent the bill to President Joe Biden to sign into law, The Hill reported.

The legislation also includes $800 million for the Ukraine security aid program — $500 million more than Biden requested for Ukraine.

The NDAA includes a host of other measures, including repealing the military’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, raising military pay and limiting engagement with Russia.

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Jack Reid praised the passage of the bill after months of negotiations and called it “the most important vote of the year.”

“I’ve said it before, and I’m not the only one saying it — the world is a more dangerous place than I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” he was quoted as saying by The Hill. (Arnie)
