The 26th World Volunteer Congress opened on Tuesday with the theme “Volunteering for the Common Good: Making Lives Better for People and Communities” and will be held at ADNOC Business Centre until 27 October, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) day.
The conference is the world’s largest gathering of volunteer experts and takes place every two years. WAM says it aims to address the many challenges and issues in volunteering and emphasizes the sustainable development of a culture of volunteering in promising societies and countries.
The event is co-hosted by the International Association of Volunteer Efforts (IAVE) and the Emirates Foundation, the UAE national organisation established by the Abu Dhabi government to promote public-privately funded initiatives to strengthen community resilience.
According to WAM, the conference is expected to attract approximately 1,000 participants from more than 100 countries, representing all stakeholders in the volunteer community, including individual leaders, civil society organizations, government agencies, academia and business.
Abu Dhabi won the bid in three shortlisted cities and was selected by IAVE to host the 26th World Volunteer Conference, becoming the first capital in the Middle East to host a global conference.
