Area 142 Will be open Saturday March 11th.The 15,000-square-foot venue in downtown Wyandotte is owned by Julie Law, the 360 degree event productionand Joshua Cade, owner of water whiskeyThe duo have hosted thirteen different festivals, including Swiggin’ Pig, Wyandotte Wine Crawl and St. Patrick’s Party and Leprechaun Crawl.
“Josh and I have had a vision for years to open a music venue in the city,” Law said. “It made sense to find a space that was centrally located, and it was perfect for us.”
The building is over a century old and some of its original charm is still intact. “The front of the building is from the 1800s, with a lot of industrial quality, gear windows and lots of steel. The inspiration was to keep that look while adding some elegance to it,” says Law.
Visitors will find staircases made from the rafters of a 1900s building, bathroom dividers made by local welders, and custom channel letters on the stage, all of which pay homage to the building’s foundations.
The team dug a hole in the floor of the two-story space to create a mezzanine, creating a two-level experience for concert goers. The lower level is a standing room only, and the upper level offers a more intimate private seating space.
“The lower level is great for anyone who wants to sit on the floor and watch these bands up close, and the upper level has seating, roaming attendants, and separate bathrooms. There’s a bar in both spaces,” says Law. Cade added that the lighting and sound systems are top-notch, giving each show a unique look and feel.
Besides its central location and state-of-the-art amenities, Area 142 has another major advantage: parking. There are free parking spaces for spectators around the venue. There are 11 parking lots in the area, with more than 1,300 parking spaces. The venue itself can seat over 700 people.
District 142 has already started filling out their 2023 roster with shows like Saliva, A Flock of Seagulls and Molly Hatchet. Many events will be aimed at an audience over 21, with some family-friendly or 18+ programming mixed in.
With a focus on country and rock music, the facility will include everything from pop rock and country hits to classic rock and outlaw country. They will also host a series of festivals this summer. The facility will open its doors to patrons on March 11 with its first concert, four horsemen — Album-quality Metallica tribute.
“This will provide the base for several of the festivals we held a few years ago, including our st patrick Parties and leprechaun crawls,” Law says. “Because we’re located on Maple Street, we can expand the party indoors and out. “
The venue has already garnered a lot of support, with their Eva Under Fire concert on April 1st selling out in less than a month. Their interest continued as they booked national legends like Foghat and Mark Farner’s American Band.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the support and the community is so excited to finally have a live music venue downriver,” Law said.
