Actor Yoon Yoo Jung (Hook Entertainment) |
Veteran actress Youn Yuh-jung will leave her agency Hook Entertainment after her contract expires, the company said Tuesday.
The Oscar-winning actor signed with Hook Entertainment in March 2017.
The company earlier denied news reports of Yoon’s departure, claiming that Yoon has not left the company despite the expiration of their exclusive contract.
Youn has reportedly yet to decide on a new agency to represent her.
Ewan made history last year when she won Best Supporting Actress at the 93rd Academy Awards for her role as the eccentric grandmother in Korean-American director Lee Isaac Chung’s immigrant experience film “Minari,” and other prestigious awards.
In her 70s, she has been active on the global stage, including her latest series “Pachinko” on Apple TV+, which was released in March. She is currently working on the sequel “Pachinko 2”.
Hook Entertainment has been at the center of controversy after singer-actor Lee Seung-gi denounced the agency and demanded transparency over payments.
According to Li, the company never paid him for digital streaming and music download revenue generated by his music. Last week, he sent a notice to Hook Entertainment to terminate his exclusive contract.
Hook Entertainment’s official apology came after a recording of Hook Entertainment’s representative, Kwon Jin Young, abusing and threatening Lee was posted online via a news report.
Hook Entertainment is currently under police investigation and was searched and seized earlier this month. The specific allegations have not been disclosed.
The agency also represents actors Lee Seo Jin and Park Min Young.
