José Verstappen has made fun of the Mercedes Formula 1 team after the dramatic end of Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix.
José’s son Max Verstappen won his second home win at Zandvoort as he passed Lewis Hamilton after a safety car restart.
Verstappen pitted under the safety car for new soft tyres, while Mercedes opted to put Hamilton on track in the old midsize car.
Verstappen quickly overtook the seven-time world champion and was in the lead when they reached the first corner after their restart.
The situation mirrored last year’s season finale in Abu Dhabi, where Verstappen surprisingly passed Hamilton on the final lap of the race after the safety car phase.
The incident was one of the most dramatic moments in F1 history and sparked major controversy in the months that followed.
and The TelegraphVerstappen Sr. mocked the Brackley-based team after his son’s 30th career win.
“It’s very exciting, but Red Bull is back on top,” he said.
“Max has tried all the tires and pointed out which compound works best. Mercedes is also going well, they definitely have a chance to win. But luckily the result is good for us.
“You would think Mercedes learned a lesson from last year’s race in Abu Dhabi, but apparently not!”
Mercedes, still awaiting its first race win of the 2022 season, has already started the campaign.
