Yungblud wants to “destroy the pedestal of pop stars”.
The 25-year-old singer – whose real name is Dominic Harrison – wants to “represent truth and connection” and help people find the freedom to express who they really are.
He said: “I want to undermine what it means to obey the rules. I want to represent an expression of truth, connection and beauty. I want people to be free to be themselves.
“I feel like there’s a lot of stuff in the world, but everyone is looking for love. If you said that to me at 19, I’d say it’s a cliché, but it’s true.”
The “Flea” singer admits early criticism of his image and music hurt, but now he’s happy to be “misunderstood” as long as people have opinions on him.
He told the Sunday Mirror: “It was me in the beginning, but honestly I liked to kick the bear.
“It reminds me of that misunderstood Doncaster 15-year-old. That’s the whole reason I created Yungblud. A life and career without risk and opinions means you’re forgotten, or you’re boring, I’m not to do this.”
Yungblud believes his new self-titled album is his “purest” record yet.
He said: “It’s proper straight whisky, no mixer, no ice. It hits the back of your throat.
“That’s why I took it from the title, because I feel like it’s my most authentic album to date.”
The ‘Tissues’ singer is ‘very proud’ of his Doncaster heritage.
He said: “I love Donnie. I’m very proud to be a northerner. I love my local chip shop. I really miss it. I travel the world, but I miss my fish and chips. I’m so British
“I love beer, cigarettes in the rain, crap Channel 4 documentaries and sitcoms.
“My suitcase has chocolate hobnobs, Yorkshire tea and Wotsits. When I’m fully jet-lagged, I live off Wotsit sandwiches.”
