Abu Dhabi: The Zayed National Museum, the UAE national museum currently under construction on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, has announced an annual allocation of AED 1 million to support research into the culture and history of the UAE, as well as the late The legacy of Herzayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE.
Funding priorities for the grant include research on Sheikh Zayed’s role in driving social, cultural and economic impact; UAE history and archaeology; and the country’s intangible heritage, including oral histories of traditions, stories and songs.
The grant will also focus on the UAE’s engagement with the rest of the Arabian Peninsula and Indian Ocean world, from prehistory to recent times.
The funding scheme aims to support both large and small grants to foster the research ecosystem in the UAE and empower a new generation of academics.
Application Deadline: July 15
Researchers have until July 15, 2023 to apply, and grants will be announced in September. This funding is renewable for up to three consecutive years.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of representatives from the Zayed National Museum and the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, as well as external subject matter experts, who will make decisions based on criteria such as the applicant’s research methodology, experience, outcomes and relevance to the museum’s mission.
