621 million passengers on public transport in Dubai by 2022

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said ridership on public transport will reach 621.4 million passengers in 2022, a surge of 35% from the previous year’s 461 million passengers.

In 2022, the average daily ridership of public transport, ride-sharing and taxis will be 1.7 million, compared to 1.3 million in 2021.

Public transport in the emirate includes Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, public buses, marine transport (abra, ferries, water taxis, water buses), shared mobility (e-hail, smart car rental, on-demand buses) and taxis (Dubai taxis and franchise taxis).

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General and Chairman of the Executive Board, noted that the Metro’s share of Dubai’s public transport passenger traffic has increased by 3% compared to 2021 levels, while sea transport passenger traffic has increased by 1%.

“Dubai Metro will receive the largest proportion of public transport, shared transport and taxi riders in 2022 at 36%, a 3% increase from 33% in 2021. This is a good indicator that people are shifting towards public transport that serves an increasing number of riders,” Al Tayer said.

“The share of public buses reaches 25%, and the share of sea transport passengers grows from 2% in 2021 to 3% in 2023. Meanwhile, shared mobility and Dubai Tram maintain their passenger levels, shared transport accounts for 5%, 1%Dubai Tram. Monthly ridership hit a record high of 62 million in March 2022, coinciding with the end of Expo 2020, followed by December with 57 million ridership. Other months saw ridership at 46 to 56 million.

“Public transport and shared mobility and taxis made 129 million trips (105 million taxis, 18.5 million shared rides, 4 million buses, 936,000 by sea, 0.45 million by Dubai Metro, 99,000 by Dubai Metro trips) tram). The number of passengers using the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro will reach 225.1 million in 2022, according to data released by the Data Statistics and Analysis Section of the RTA Corporate Command and Control Centre. Burjuman Station and Union Station are interchange stations for the Red Line and Green Line In 2022, the Green Line will account for the largest share of Dubai Metro public transport passengers. Burjuman Station serves 13 million passengers on the Red and Green Lines, while Union Station has 10.8 million passengers.

On the Red Line, Al Rigga Station attracted the most passengers at 9.9 million, followed by Mall of the Emirates Station (9.6 million), Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Station (8.8 million) and Business Bay Station (8.5 million).

On the Green Line, Sharaf DG leads with 7.7 million riders ahead of Baniyas Station (7.3 million), followed by Stadium Station (5.6 million), Salah Al Din Station (5.3 million) and Al Ghubaiba Station (4.90 million) Ten thousand) ).
